My Jeep wrangler broke down 3 months ago, I took it to two different mechanics who couldn't even get it started never mind fix it. After 8 weeks of nothing I finally took it here, within one morning I had a call, my car was started up, issues found and he was already looking into ordering parts. He sourced all my parts for me, refusing to pay ridiculous prices for pistons and found me everything I needed much cheaper. Within 3 weeks I had my car back, and it is now running smoother than ever (2000 TJ). Even my lpg is running great and no longer feels like it will cut out, I'm so glad I found this mechanic and will never take my car else where. Very honest, and informative. Definitely will recommend on the wrangler forums
Be careful! Took our jeep to have a diagnostic done, it hadn't running properly and hadn't been clicking over to lpg. We explained the issues and were told he was 80% sure it was a blown gasket, sure enough an hour later I received a call to say that it had a hole in the cylinder and that the advise was to have a new engine put in. I went to fetch the car and paid the bill, which amounted to 48, half an hour's work! We then took the car for a second opinion, only to find out that there was no hole, no blown head gasket, no catastrophic damage! It was simply a air lock that needed bleeding and required some more coolant!
Sub standard 370 lighter wouldn't recommend
We have been modifying VWs for the best part of fourty years and occasionally we have to call on outside help with difficult to isolate problems. We have been attempting to put right a modified vehicle built by another company which had a number of intrinsic engineering and safety issues and after a LONG haul we were nearly at a conclusion but a high boost power delivery problem had appeared which was perplexing and proving hard to isolate safely within the law on the public highway. After asking around I found this company who were conveniently close to us so I arranged to see them over a week in advance after a long chat over the phone explaining my situation, I had a good impression that they would be able to help me isolate this problem. On their advice, I installed an exhaust back pressure testing point with remote gauge, ready for their use on the day. When I arrived, my initial impression was I had turned up at a normal independent garage not unlike my own and the initial contact was a lady who was polite and helpful. The first technician I encountered asked me a few questions but was dismissive of what he saw and did not assimilate the information he was given about the systems in place, particularly one being there purely for the purposes of diagnosis and criticised what he could see without taking in what he was being told and shown. I attempted to give him a run down of what had been done and it was clear this information was not being absorbed BUT he immediately said this sounded like a fueling issue rather than the exhaust back pressure issue I had suspected. The car was put on the rollers and correctlly tied down and then an older chap stepped in who then brushed me aside outside without asking for any information, I can understand this attitude with having inexperienced people in my own workshop but I am not inexperienced and no attempt was made to work with me, he was just dismissive, treating me as an inconvenience. A run was made and the problem I had described became immediately apparent and they showed me it was a fuelling problem, just as the younger chap had said but the back pressure measuring system I had spent hours installing was never referenced. However I was enlightened and wanted to show them the systems on the car which would deal with this issue if they would show me where the problem was but all they wanted to do was sell me a remap of their own which I did not need as the system to carry out this remap was already fitted to the car. I connected the cars built in PC system and brought up the two built in systems which allow diagnostics and signal correction including boost control and an additional fuel injector but they simply did not want to know, even though I pointed out that to do a remap they would HAVE to work with the boost control side of my system to achive a successful result. The younger chap commented that I would not listen and the older one said he did not want to learn my system but this compares well to one of the systems he normally uses as I also use it but this particular system is even more intuitive and actually far easier, it is just a 3D table. I used the table to put more fuel in where the problem appeared and he then made another run which made a huge difference immediately and I could see we were on the right track and with a bit of work we would have a working table but he again stated he did not want to learn my system. I then explained that I had further work for them setting up another project with the very system they were faimiliar with and he said he would be happy to do this but again said he would not learn or work with this system, so at this point I gave up, paid and left feeling let down and disappointed, defeat snatched from the jaws of victory..... At least I do now know where the problem lies but now have to find someone I can work with to help me safely make these corrections. This is a shame as with a little effort and cooperation there was ample opportunity to work well together in the future.
